Where Your Shower Really Costs You
The biggest cost of a shower is not always the water itself — it is the energy used to heat it.
Every extra litre of hot water means more work for your hot water cylinder or heating system. Reduce the flow, and you reduce the amount of water that needs to be heated every time someone showers.
That means lower hot water demand, less energy use, and potential savings that add up across every shower, every day.
No shorter showers. No new habits. Just a more efficient way to use the water you already pay to heat.
Better Water. Better Skin. Better Hair.
Across New Zealand and Australia, shower water can contain chlorine, sediment, rust, minerals and other residual impurities.
Softer, Healthier-Looking Skin
Chlorine and mineral build-up can leave your skin feeling dry, tight and irritated. Filtering your shower water helps reduce these impurities.
Smoother, More Manageable Hair
Chlorine, sediment and minerals can build up on your hair, leaving it feeling dry, dull and frizzy. Cleaner shower water helps your hair feel softer, smoother and easier to manage.
A Cleaner, Happier Scalp
Your scalp is exposed to shower water every day. Reducing chlorine, sediment and other unwanted impurities can help create a cleaner, more comfortable shower experience for your hair and scalp.
It Does
- Filter sediment, rust and pipe scale before they reach the shower stream
- Help reduce the chlorine smell in hot water
- Cut water flow by roughly a third compared with a typical 14 L/min showerhead
- Switch between Rain, Blend and Jet spray modes
- Pause the flow at the handle without reaching for the tap
- Use the handheld head to rinse hair, pets, tiles and hard-to-reach areas
- Replace the filter cartridge instead of replacing the whole showerhead
- Check the cartridge through the handle window so maintenance is easier to keep on top of
FAQ
Will it fit my shower?
Will it fit my shower?
Almost certainly. It uses a G1/2 thread, the standard fitting on New Zealand and Australian shower arms. If your existing head unscrews by hand or with a spanner, NARAQUA screws straight on. The only exceptions are fixed rainfall ceiling heads with no exposed thread, and a handful of older imported European fittings.
I rent. Can I use it?
I rent. Can I use it?
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons people buy it. Nothing is drilled and nothing is glued to the wall unless you choose to use the adhesive mount. Keep your old head in a cupboard and swap it back when you move. Ten seconds either way.
How often do I change the filter?
How often do I change the filter?
Every three to six months for a typical household. Two people showering daily will be at the longer end; a family of five will be at the shorter. The cartridge darkens as it collects sediment, that is the visual cue, but time is the better guide. Three cartridges come in the box.
Will it reduce my water pressure?
Will it reduce my water pressure?
It will not raise the pressure in your pipes, nothing screwed to the end of a shower arm can do that. What it does is narrow the outlets, which speeds the water up so the spray feels firmer while using fewer litres. On a low-pressure or gravity-fed system it feels noticeably better than a wide open head. On a mains-pressure system it feels sharper.
Does it remove chlorine?
Does it remove chlorine?
It reduces the chlorine smell in hot water, which is the thing most people actually notice. We are careful about how we say this: we have not run our own laboratory test on the finished product, so we will not put a percentage on it. If we do run one, we will publish the report.
Does it soften hard water?
Does it soften hard water?
No. Softening water means removing dissolved calcium and magnesium through ion exchange, which is physically impossible in a small in-line cartridge at shower flow rates. Anyone selling you a "water softening shower head" is telling you something that is not true.
Will it help my skin or my hair?
Will it help my skin or my hair?
We are not going to tell you it treats anything. What we can say is that the water feels different and the chlorine smell goes, and that is what customers mention most. If you have a skin condition, see a doctor, not a shower head company. Dermatologists will tell you that shorter, cooler showers and a gentler cleanser do more for dry skin than any filter.
Is it noisy?
Is it noisy?
A concentrated spray is slightly louder than a soft wide one, most obviously on Jet. Rain mode is about the same as a standard head.
